Jaguar- Land Rover Opening Doors for Young Female Engineers
Jaguar- Land Rover Opening Doors for Young Female Engineers! We are excited to announce that JLR hosted a four-day Young Women in the Know program, which takes place at the five JLR Education Business Partnership Centres in the Midlands and Merseyside and gives prospective female engineers the chance to get a foot in the door for automotive engineering. Over 90 female students aged 15-18 were given the chance to tour JLR’s design and manufacturing facilities, speak and work with female mentors, and brush up on pertinent job skills such as CV writing and interview techniques. The students involved all applied for the Jaguar Land Rover Advanced and Degree Apprenticeship programs and were awarded their places in the Young Women in the Know program after passing HR screening and psychometric tests.
JLR’s Nick Rogers, executive director, Product Engineering, said about the importance of this program, “The whole automotive industry is facing a shortfall of engineers, and for Jaguar Land Rover, encouraging more girls and women to consider a career in engineering is a vital part of addressing this shortage. We’ve seen our female engineering workforce grow from 9 to 11 per cent over the past four years due to our initiatives like Young Women in the Know and our Women in Engineering undergraduate sponsorship scheme, and it’s great to see these programs are helping us attract more female talent to our business.”
